From the Football Field to the Ballroom

Watching the finals for "Dancing with the Stars" last night was fun as usual. Darn! Makes me want to take to the dance floor and learn ballroom dancing!
What has been particularly joyful is watching Emmitt Smith. For one, his dancing has improved by leaps and bounds week after week. He manages to conquer that fine line between "dancing really well" and "still looking very masculine". I can believe that the average man would wish that he could hit the dance floor and look like Emmitt. He has style, he has charisma, his smile is contagious- quite the performer!
My favorite quote from Emmitt during the show:
"If someone came up to me and said, 'Real men don't dance,' I'm going to say to them, 'Real men try to do things that they think they cannot do.' That's the difference between another man and a real man."
The other reason it's bringing me joy is because of my ex, Fred. Fred was an avid Dallas Cowboys fan. In fact- I even became a Dallas Cowboy fan. I still have one of Fred's "Back to Back Superbowl Champs" t-shirts. Emmitt was Fred's idol. When I watch Emmitt dance, I can't help but ask myself "What would Fred think of Emmitt being in the finals of Dancing with the Stars"? And I immediately know the answer- he would love it! Because Fred was another one of those rare types that could be masculine, sexy, and kill on a dance floor.
So as I watch a silly tv show, I'm smiling ear to ear and laughing out loud at the memories this show evokes.
