Happy Birthday "L"!!!

Tomorrow is my oldest nephew's 9th birthday. "L" is the reason I moved to DC. Back in 1999, I was living in Houston, TX. I had just spent the previous ten years moving all over the south...and staying as far away from my family as possible. Don't get me wrong- I wasn't estranged or anything, I was just trying to assert my new adulthood.

Anyway...so there I am in my early 30's, living in Texas...and my brothers start having babies! Ooops, I mean, my brothers' wives start having babies. And the first was "L". And he lived in DC.

When I would come to DC or NY to visit, I would get so sad when I thought about how much of these babies lives I was missing! That just couldn't happen! So I packed up my stuff, my youngest brother flew out to Texas and drove with me to DC.

Being a part of "L's" childhood has been fun...He's a cutie (of course), smart, funny, a bit spoiled, and very loved. I enjoy being his "cool aunt" (I think I earned that title when I joined him and his younger brother in a belching contest one day...don't tell my sister-in-law). I miss him and his brother since they relocated to NJ a couple months ago. It's funny how things happen though, huh?
